Round 11 Ins & Outs

The Box Hill Hawks have named an extended 31-man squad for Saturday’s visit of Aspley, with the final twenty to be named come game day.

The Box Hill set-up could be bolstered by the inclusion of a slew of AFL-listed talent, headlined by midfielder James Cousins, versatile tall Tim O’Brien, key position back Kyle Hartigan and familiar face Jai Newcombe, who just four weeks ago hadn’t yet realised his big-league dream.

Another man named is Will Day. A former first round draft selection, ‘Daysy’ has played the last two games at senior level having returned from an 11-week injury layoff.

During his rehab he assisted Sam Mitchell’s match day staff in the role of bench coach, though were he to play it would be the 20-year-old’s first match for Box Hill.

Tom Phillips and Conor Nash could be called on to add run and carry to the brown and gold, while clever small forward Tyler Brockman provides a goal threat no matter the level and would be a welcome addition to a dangerous front six.

Hard-nosed midfielder-turned-defender Cal Porter has won his place in the squad having been squeezed out on balance last week, while Charlie Beasley is in the mix to run out alongside older brother Hugh and make his debut.

More good news comes in the form of Gippsland Power product Luis D’Angelo. The 19-year-old has recently joined the Club and having won a place on the list has found himself named in the squad and in-line for a potential debut.

Captain Damian Mascitti and defensive duo Stu Horner & Mason De Wit are all named, keeping that trio on track to remain the only Box Hill-listed players to have featured in every one of the Hawks’ home and away assignments.

The first bounce this Saturday is scheduled for 12:30pm, meaning teams will be confirmed at midday.

Whilst we’re thrilled to be welcoming spectators to City Oval capacity will be capped, and the gates shut once reached. We recommend arriving early if you intend to come down.
