Good Friday Appeal Tin Shake

Our club is proud to announce our commitment to playing a role in the community, by participating annually, in the Good Friday Appeal Tin Shake. Shaking the tins for the Good Friday Appeal is a chance to donate some money for a good cause helping children in need of medical care at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. And giving them a chance to get their own lives off to a good start.

During season 2022 we had five tins. Coaches and players are asked to hold onto a tin for a week and raise as much money as they can. The appeal started in 1931. The Children’s Hospital in Melbourne was at risk of closure due to soaring costs, overcrowding and under resourcing. On hearing this, a team of journalists from The Sporting Globe, part of the Herald and Weekly Times, decided to hold a sports carnival to raise money for sick children. Over the years the lives of thousands of young children have been improved by the great work of the Royal Children’s Hospital.

As part of the Spread Your Wings program the Box Hill players do an activity called “we all had to start somewhere.” The boys send in pictures of themselves as young children with a love of the game and a focus on being grateful for what we have.
