Another Impressive Win for Development Team

The Box Hill Hawks Development team have recorded another impressive win this season, defeating Sandringham by 108-points at Trevor Barker Oval yesterday.

On a day with perfect weather conditions for footy, the Hawks dominated from start to finish, ending the game with a massive 28 goals.

Although Sandringham managed to kick the first goal for the game, the Hawks quickly found their rhythm and controlled ball movement at both ends of the ground.

Tom Gordon and Conor Glass were solid down back, both showing off some impressive bodywork and limiting Sandringham’s scoring opportunities.

With plenty of contested footy to be won throughout the middle of the ground in the first half, Connor O’Sullivan and Liam Cox led the way in clearances, recording five and four for the half respectively.

The second half of the match saw Box Hill take their game to another level, kicking an outstanding 17 goals to Sandringham’s 5. The last quarter saw Irishman Conor Glass kick his first VFL goal, with Julian Soccio also kicking a goal late in the final term to put the Hawks more than 100-points in front of the Zebras.

Box Hill’s pressure was evident throughout the match, recording 58 tackles to Sandringham’s 29 by the end of the game. Jordan Walker and Mitch O’Donnell led the way, both laying eight a piece.

By the final siren, the Box Hill Hawks had recorded a 108-point victory as they continue their strong recent run of form.

Joseph Fisher, the Development Captain yesterday, spoke with boxhillhawks.com.au about the game and the team’s upcoming week.

“Going into the game today, we treated it like a final. It was a must-win game for Sandringham and for us it was about preparing for finals, so it was important for us to produce another four-quarter effort.”

“Our motivation is self-driven – we want to push each other. We’re all fighting for spots for finals so we can’t take our foot off the pedal. In finals, if we do that it could cost us the game.”

“We have a bye next week so we just need to make sure we stick together as a group. The Senior boys are still playing so we just need to make sure we train well on the Saturday before all going together to watch the other boys take on Collingwood.”

“We just can’t get complacent. With the week off we just need to stay focused coming into the Casey game and finals.”

The Development squad has a bye this week, but return to City Oval on Saturday 27th August at 11am to take on the Casey Scorpions.
