We’re Back!

The Box Hill Hawks will return to competitive action this Sunday, tackling archrivals Essendon to mark the return of VFL football in the state of Victoria.

The Club’s seventh match of the season – the first since an 84-point win over Carlton on May 23rd – will be played behind closed doors at the Bombers’ Windy Hill home ground, with only players and essential staff permitted inside the venue per Victorian Government regulations.

“The biggest emotion is excitement,” said Daniel Napoli, Box Hill’s General Manager VFL & VFLW.

“As a Club and more broadly a competition, we all want to be out on the field come the weekend. It’s why we exist, it’s what all the hard work builds towards and it’s what we look forward to the most.

“We’ve had two sessions together since restrictions eased late last week and Sam, his coaches, our playing group and staff have returned from the break full of enthusiasm.

“I’m sure it’s a sentiment shared across the whole of the VFL, but it’s obvious everyone is happy to be back on deck and preparing for a game on Sunday.”

At this time only the coming weekend’s fixture has been confirmed, with subsequent rounds to be finalised and announced in due course.

“From an administrative point of view the VFL competition did a great job to build a fixture with the necessary scope to absorb disruptions,” Napoli said.

“We’ll happily adjust to whatever it ends up looking like beyond this weekend, but in the immediate term it’s fantastic to have a match for premiership points against Essendon – something that wasn’t in the initial fixture release.

“The two teams share a storied rivalry, and we look forward to seeing it renewed this Sunday.”

Fans wanting to follow the action from Windy Hill on Sunday will be able to do so via Box Hill’s social media channels. Additionally, the match will be broadcast live on Kayo.

The first bounce will take place at 11:05am.
