VFLW coaches votes, R3: McRae leads the way

A record six Hawks have polled votes in the VFLW Coaches MVP Award following Box Hill’s 29-point win over the Southern Saints on Sunday.

Leadership group member Grace McRae led the way with eight votes following her 18 disposals, eight tackles, five marks and one goal.

Maddie Boyd was next best with four votes thanks to her 20 hit-outs, 17 disposals, nine marks and four tackles.

Co-vice-captain Nadia von Bertouch stood up in the absence of injured skipper Nicole Garner, recording 17 disposals and taking nine marks. The star defender received three votes for her performance. 

Sophie Locke received two votes for her two goals, 14 disposals and 10 tackles while Janet Baird and Grace Matser rounded out the polling with one vote each.

Baird had 12 disposals and laid five tackles, impressing with her positioning and reading of the play. 

Matser dominated the ruck contest with 31 hit-outs to go with her 10 possessions and one goal. 

Overall, three Hawks are ranked in the competition’s top 10 vote-getters, with Boyd and Jordan Mifsud sitting on 13 votes for the season while McRae has 12.
