Ex AFLW stars headline Box Hill VFLW list

Box Hill’s VFLW side is set for a bumper season with a talent-stacked squad locked in for 2023.

The list contains 19 primary-listed players, 15 under 22 development-listed players and some academy players.

Jordan Mifsud, Nicole Garner, Kristy Stratton, Nadia von Bertouch, Abbey Holmes, Ellie McLinden, Jade Wise, Jess Trend, Sky Wilson, Alisha Molesworth, Grace McRae, Mietta Kendall and Sarah Humm all put pen to paper for another season in the brown and gold following a strong finals showing in 2022.

Joining the recommitted 13 players are eight former AFLW talents in Chantella Perera (West Coast), Holly Whitford (Collingwood and Richmond) Cassie Davidson (Fremantle and West Coast), Maddie Boyd (Melbourne, GWS and Geelong), Emerson Woods (Carlton), Grace Matser (North Melbourne) and Charlotte Hammans (Carlton).

Box Hill’s 2023 VFLW team

The re-signed Stratton, von Bertouch, Holmes, Trend and Kendall also have AFLW experience, highlighting the depth of Cherie O’Neill’s team.

The team’s vast experience will be combined with exciting youth thanks to powerful Bond Uni duo Caitlin Thorne and Annie Muir as well as leadership group member and star midfielder Grace McRae.

Box Hill also continues its strong connections with the Eastern Ranges and Gippsland Power teams, with Sky Wilson, Emerson Woods, Mietta Kendall and Sarah Humm among those from the Ranges and Alisha Molesworth, Matilda Van Berkel, Chloe Bailey, Sunday Brisbane, Grace McRae, Grace Matser and Macie Gilmour among those from the Power.

The playing group will be supported by VFLW Senior Coach Cherie O’Neill, Midfield Coach Hayley Gregory, Forwards Coach Alex Mackenzie and Backline Coach Ross Gemmill.

In addition, inaugural Hawthorn AFLW stars Tilly Lucas-Rodd (midfield), Sarah Perkins (forwards) and Jess Duffin (defence) will take on roles as development coaches while Tamara Luke will serve as Bench Coach.
