VFL Round 1 Team Selection

Zane Littlejohn and his coaches have named their first squad of the 2023 season, with a 26-strong contingent in the mix to face Sydney.

Among them are 16 AFL-listed Hawks, including potential Box Hill debutants Cooper Stephens, Josh Weddle, Josh Bennetts, Bailey Macdonald, Jack O’Sullivan and Henry Hustwaite.

From a Box Hill perspective, newly appointed Co-Captain Cal Porter will lead his side out, supported by Vice Captain Stu Horner, experienced hands Ed Phillips & Jaylon Thorpe and new recruit Cal Brown.

Second-year half-forward Max Hall will be looking to build on a promising first season in brown and gold, as will sophomore half-back Liam Coghlan.

Hall, from Montrose, capped off a fine 2022 with three goals in a breakout display in the Club’s Elimination Final loss on the Gold Coast and has been rewarded for an excellent pre-season with selection first up in Sydney.

The home grown pair are joined in the extended squad by fellow youngsters Tristan Waack, Ethan Stanley and Kai Agosta, who would all make their debuts if selected.

The Hawks and Swans kick off their 2023 seasons on Sunday morning at Tramway Oval. The first bounce is scheduled for 10am, with the final composition of Box Hill’s game day 23 to be communicated shortly beforehand.
