Community Wrap Up

A fairy-tale comeback and unadvertised debut headline our Hawks’ efforts for their community clubs, with several our boys in action and excelling at local level this past weekend.

In the EFL Premier League, Mihaele Zalac was named among Doncaster’s best in their loss to Balwyn. Zal’s two goals were a highlight on an otherwise difficult day for the Sharks, who fell to the Tigers by 47-points.

Adrian Kalcovski’s Vermont continued on their winning ways, maintaining top spot on the competition ladder with a hard fought 16-point victory over Doncaster East.

Earlier in the day, Jamieson Rossiter made a long-awaited comeback from injury, starring in Vermont’s reserve grade victory over Doncaster East. ‘Jamo’ booted three goals and was named among the Eagles’ best in their 88-point win.

In EFL Division One, Cayden Maki’s Mooroolbark recorded a 14-point win over Wantirna South. ‘Mak’ played a leading hand on the day, helping the Mustangs secure a result that cements their place in the top four.

The top-of-the-table meeting between James Blanck’s Park Orchards and East Ringwood didn’t disappoint, with the Sharks surviving to win a nail-biter by two-points. The win moves The Orch one win clear of the chasing pack.

Beau Tennant kicked a goal and was named in the best for Montrose but could do little to stop a confident Lilydale from running out 42-point winners.

In the VAFA, Lachlan Walker and Riley Bowman’s St. Kevin’s maintained top spot with a crushing win over Old Scotch. ‘Walks’ and ‘Bowie’ were both named in the best, with the latter kicking two goals on the day.

Elliot and Josh Le Grice took the field for Old Brighton in their crucial clash against Caulfield Grammarians. In a tight contest it was ultimately Caulfield’s day, the win seeing them leapfrog Brighton into third place.

Having endured an interrupted preparation for Box Hill’s match-up with The Suns, Mason De Wit turned out for Mt Eliza. The running defender did his part in a 14-point win, kicking a crucial goal to see off Red Hill.

Meanwhile, our two newest recruits featured in NAB League action. Jake Arundell kicked a goal in Eastern Ranges’ narrow win over Dandenong, while Luis D’Angelo featured as Gippsland secured their first win of 2021 against the Western Jets.
