Tough Day for the Seniors at Simonds Stadium

It was a tough day for the Box Hill Hawks Senior side who took on the Geelong Cats at Simonds Stadium over the weekend.

After a tight first quarter that saw Chris Jones, Jordan Walker and Jake Summers impacting the scoreboard for the Hawks, the momentum dropped and the Cats took every advantage.

Boxhillhawks.com.au spoke to Sam Iles after a disappointing loss.

‘The pressure Geelong put on us when we did get the footy was excellent and when they got it they linked up really well and maintained possession.’

‘They upset how we wanted to play and slowed down the ball, creating turnovers. It was frustrating how hard it was for us to get the ball in our 50 and they kept stealing it from us, getting it down their end too quickly.’

The second half saw Box Hill increase their pressure on the ball carrier but while leading the tackle count 21-18, Box Hill struggled to maintain possession of the ball.

In the final turn, it was the strength of Geelong’s forwards that dominated the quarter. Booting six goals to Box Hill’s three, the Cats had extended their lead to 49 points by the final siren.

Looking ahead to Round 12, the Box Hill Seniors will be heading to North Port Oval where they will be taking on Port Melbourne on Saturday the 25th of June.
