Seniors Remain Unbeaten After Round 4
Despite wet and windy conditions on Sunday, Box Hill remain undefeated as they secured their fourth win for the season against the Frankston Dolphins.
Vice-Captain Marc Lock spoke to boxhillhawks.com.au after the win about the team’s performance yesterday.
“When we were able to change angles and when the ball came over to the attacking side, we were on top of them.”
Box Hill were able to use these weather conditions to their advantage in the first quarter, and by the end of the term the group were leading the game by 13-points.
The second quarter saw Box Hill drop off, Frankston hitting back with some renewed efforts.
“Their forward pressure was pretty good and they kept forcing us into handball chains which put us under pressure as well.”
Despite 30 inside 50s, Box Hill only managed 10 scoring shots. Although majority of the play was in Box Hill’s forward, Frankston managed to limit our goal scoring shots to just two goals by half time.
“We could only get a scrappy kick forward and it was shallow so they managed to get the ball going their way.”
Leading by 19-points, the team came back out onto the field for the third quarter with a renewed sense of energy focusing on resetting their play and controlling the pace of the ball.
Going into the last quarter, Box Hill lead the game by 30-points, a lead that was extended to 59-points with goals from Julian Soccio, Dallas Willsmore and Lachlan Langford.
Box Hill managed to gain true control of the game during the second half booting eight goals to two. Increasing their tackling pressure, the group ended the game with 72 tackles to Frankston’s 44.
With 27 disposals and six marks to his name, Lock was one of the leading players of the day, but reflecting on the game says there is definitely room for improvement.
“It was quiet a sloppy game and I didn’t get the right possessions in terms of how the team and I want to play. It was still good to get my hands on the ball but moving forward I’d like to control the ball a bit better.”
Despite having some issues this week, Lock is proud of what the boys have managed to achieve in the first four rounds of the season.
“We’ve been up against some tough sides so to win all four games has been great. Our next two opponents will be tough but to start the season 4-0 is fantastic. We know we’ve got a lot of work to do going forward in the season.”
After a bye next weekend, Box Hill will be taking on Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval on Sunday 15th May.
