Development Team Soar Over Tigers

The Box Hill Hawks have recorded an emphatic 158-point victory in their third consecutive win against the Werribee Tigers in season 2016.

Leading at every change, the Hawks kicked an impressive 28 majors by the end of the game from a combined 12 goal-scorers.

Within the first five minutes of the opening bounce, Box Hill had kicked two early goals before Werribee had hit the scoreboard. Controlling the ball movement through the middle of the ground, the Hawks were able to keep the majority of play inside their Forward 50.

Returning in the second quarter with more aggression, the Hawks continued to apply pressure to the scoreboard. Almost doubling the Tigers’ tackle count for the half 44 to 24, Box Hill’s pressure on the ball carrier proved too strong.

Kicking a collective 16 goals in the second half, the Hawks were relentless in their pursuit of the football, not allowing the Tigers another goal for the game after three quarter time.

In the end the Hawks proved too strong, prevailing with a comfortable 158-point win. Another strong four-quarter performance with all players contributing to the win sees the team primed for the run home to the finals.

Mitchell O’Donnell made a successful return from an ACL injury with a strong performance collecting 25 disposals, laying four tackles as well as seven clearances and a goal.

Jake Summers also proved prominent after recent senior action with 22 disposals and five goals. He spoke to boxhillhawks.com.au after the match about the team’s convincing win.

“It was just a good team performance. We obviously knew that we knocked off Werribee in our past two clashes so we were really focused on playing our brand of footy.”

“It’s about playing those four-quarters. We spoke during the week about not becoming complacent and making sure we just continue to put in that effort.”

The Development team’s strong recent form sees them sitting three games clear on top of the ladder and in a strong position with finals around the corner. Next week they take on Sandringham at Trevor Barker Beach Oval from 11am.
