New Box Hill recruit Anthony Brolic says he was extremely relieved to finally sign on with the club for the 2016 season.
“It took longer than expected, but when I signed I knew I had made the right decision and I’m just looking forward to not having it at the back of my mind anymore. Now that the contract is done, I can focus solely on my footy.”
Now that Brolic is officially on board for the 2016 season, he is looking to the year ahead, already setting personal goals.
“I would like to try and get a couple of games in the seniors. I know it will be hard to make the seniors team, but that’s my little goal. It’s a very experienced squad and there’s a couple of new guys as well, but that’s really my main goal.”
When asked to comment on his personal playing style, Brolic described himself as a very versatile and competitive player.
“I’m just a player that can play anywhere, I can play down back, I can play through the midfield and go down forward as well.”
“I don’t really like to lose, especially when I’m down back, so I’ve rarely lost a one-on-one contest. When I have lost one, I’ve always wanted to win the ball even more when it came back my way.”
Brolic also knows that there are aspects of his personal game that he still needs to work on, with one area in particular that he is focusing on.
“There are always fitness improvements that can be made to assist in running out the entire game. I did some work at the end of last year and managed to drop a few kilos which was good and therefore meant that I wasn’t as tired at the start of this year.”
Brolic’s time playing with the Eastern Ranges and in the TAC Cup last year also helped to improve his game and take it to a new level.
“Playing against guys that are now in the AFL was very good. Especially for my game, it was really important to get a gauge as to whether I could win a contest against them. It was great for my confidence going forward.”
When asked what he is looking forward to most this year, Brolic was very clear in his response.
“I just want to enjoy it because I know Box Hill is a successful club and I’m looking for success as well.”
