Ericson secures VFLW top job

The Box Hill Hawks have appointed Michael Ericson as the VFLW Senior Coach for the 2024 season.

His position will be a dual role, along with Development Coach within the Hawthorn AFLW program.

Ericson brings to the Hawks a wealth of knowledge and experience at the level, having spent time with both the Northern Blues (2015-2017) and Essendon (2018) VFLW sides, as well as  his role as the Senior Coach of the VFLW Darebin Falcons in 2019.

Off the football field Ericson is a teacher, specialising in sport and physical education subjects.

Box Hill Hawks General Manager Pat Clancey said Ericson was the ideal candidate for this role and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish with the team.

“Michael has a strong focus on player development which we see as crucial in the VFLW competition, as well as the work he will do with the younger AFLW playing group.

“It’s been great to see him hit the ground running with such an enthusiastic outlook and a readiness to push this group all the way.”

Ericson said he’s really looking forward to the opportunity and he cannot wait to get into the action.

“What drew me to the role was the opportunity to work in an AFL aligned program, a club that everyone’s wanted to emulate ever since I’ve been in footy, so now I get to be a part of that and be that program that everyone wants to strive to be.

“The facilities are excellent, the resources, staff I’ve met so far are fantastic and obviously, the playing group’s really exciting.

“I’m stoked to be able to work within both VFLW and AFLW programs, it’s going to be great to combine those two programs, work with the best players and really build a cohesive group.

“The main goal is to develop players so they’re ready to play AFLW if that’s what they aspire to do. To build a group that love to spend time together on and off the footy field, we want to really build that one club approach where everyone’s contributing positively the the group.”
