Community Clubs August 30

Finals footy is in full swing for our boys playing local level. Four played in finals this past weekend and four won, meaning there will be numerous Box Hill boys taking it to the next level again this coming weekend.

Sahaf Ali and East Ringwood were successful in their Semi Final clash with Mitcham in the Eastern Football Netball League, First Division Seniors. Ali and the Roos took a 61-point win, 14.12 (96) to 4.11 (35).

East Ringwood trailed by 10 points at quarter time, before leading by 10 at the half and extending their steady lead to run out winners come full time. They now look to the Grand Final in two weeks’ time on September 10, with their opponent to be decided this weekend.

Also in the EFNL First Division Seniors, Cayden Maki and Mooroolbark took their second chance with both hands, securing a place in the Preliminary Final with a 25-point victory over Montrose.

The score line suggests the game was a tussle, with the Mustangs behind by three points at the first break, ahead by 11 at half-time, trailing by six at three-quarter time and with a strong last quarter they managed the win. Maki and Mooroolbark now face off with Mitcham this Saturday, for a place in the big dance against East Ringwood.

Jimmy O’Connor and Harry Banfield lined up with Vermont in the EFNL Premier Division Reserves Elimination Final against Noble Park. The Eagles led from the get-go and ran out winners by 48 points, 11.13 (79) to 4.7 (31).

Both O’Connor and Banfield were named in the best players for Vermont, fourth and fifth respectively, playing their roles well in the big game. The Eagles now look to their Semi Final clash with Park Orchards this Sunday, on the hunt for a win to progress in the finals series.

In the Ovens and Murray Football League, Will Sexton and Yarrawonga suffered defeat in the final round of the regular season. Round 18 saw them face off with Wangaratta, a clash of first and second, with Yarrawonga going down by 21 in the end, 18.8 (116) to 15.5 (95).

Sexton and Yarrawonga will take on Albury this Saturday in Round 1 of the finals.

A few other players who either missed this past week due to a higher ladder finish, or for some it was a trip to the Gold Coast with the Box Hill team. Nevertheless, a few more of our boys will line up in finals this weekend.

The EFNL Premier Division Seniors plays host to Rowville and Noble Park this Saturday, with our own Jake Arundell, Lachlan Wynd and Mitchel Sruk lining up in the Semi Final, after a first-place finish on the ladder.

The Gippsland League sees three Box Hill boys line up in both Semi Finals. Jack Hume and Leongatha will take on Wonthaggi Power. While Luis D’Angelo and David Brinker-Ritchie with Traralgon will face off with Sale.

In the NAB League, Max Walton will line up in an Elimination Final with Gippsland Power, when they take on the Northern Nights this Saturday at Ikon Park.

While Will Garner is a chance to line up with Blackburn in the EFNL Premier Division Reserves when they take on Rowville in the Semi Final, after finishing in top spot.

Again, we wish all our boys and their respective teams the best of luck in their finals this weekend – Show that ‘Stanga spirit!
