Community Clubs April 26

A host of Box Hill boys were in action for their community clubs over the ANZAC weekend, with many leagues seeing the best of the Hawks’ young talent. 

In an ANZAC Day clash, Will Garner’s Blackburn went down to South Croydon 17.10 (112) to 12.10 (82) in the Eastern Football Netball League Seniors. Garner took some huge marks and kicked two goals, earning himself a spot at sixth best. 

James O’Connor and Harry Banfield both laced up for Vermont Reserves (EFNL). O’Connor was very attacking off the half back flank and Banfield laid six tackles in their win over Norwood. They managed a huge win, 14.8 (92) to Norwood’s 2.4 (16). 

In the EFNL First Division Seniors, Cayden Maki and Mooroolbark won with 15.14 (104) over Max Hall’s Montrose 13.11 (89). Max was named fourth best and kicked on goal in his side’s loss. 

In the Premier Division Seniors of the EFNL, Campbell Tweedie and Liam Coghlan’s Doncaster suffered a loss to local rivals Doncaster East, 11.21 (87) to 6.7 (43). 

Will Sexton’s Balwyn Tigers went down by just ten points, 13.12 (90) to Park Orchards 15.10 (100) in the EFNL Premier Division. The Tigers led at every change but were pipped at the post in the last term. 

Mitchell Sruk and the Rowville Hawks had an impressive win over North Ringwood with an 80-point victory in the EFNL Seniors. Sruk was strong on the day, coming in at sixth best for the Hawks. 

Jed Rule played for the Oakleigh Chargers in a big win in the NAB League. The Chargers 15.19 (109) defeated Calder Cannons (8.8 (56). The win maintained their perfect track record so far this season, currently sitting second on the ladder just behind Gippsland Power on percentage. 

Max Walton turned out for Gippsland Power in the NAB League in their 106 to 60 defeat of the Dandenong Stingrays. He played to his strengths and earnt a place in the best players, with his side sitting atop the league ladder. 

Going down in a nailbiter, Sahaf Ali and the Eastern Ranges lost by a single behind to the Brisbane Lions, 64-63 in the NAB League. 

Luis D’Angelo’s Traralgon were too good for rivals Morwell in their Round 3 clash in the Gippsland League. The Maroons ran out 48-point winners. 

The Ballarat Football Netball League saw Jayden Eales playing through the midfield in his side, Sunbury’s defeat by Melton 16.12 (108) to 10.8 (68).
