Just six Box Hill-listed players were in action over the Easter , with many football leagues around the state observing the long weekend.

Will Sexton’s Balwyn got their Eastern Football Netball League Premier Division season underway with a comfortable win over Blackburn.

Although inaccurate on the day, the Tigers, coached by former Hawk Rodney Eade, lead all afternoon on their way to a 61-point victory.

A solid contributor, Sexo’s performance was recognised as one of his side’s best on the day.

Will Garner turned out for Blackburn in fixture’s reserves contest, with his Blackburn side far too strong for Balwyn.

Aided by two goals from Garner the Panthers cruised to a 71-point win, keeping their opponents goalless in the process.

Flynn Lakey’s Gisborne continued their strong start to the season, besting Kyneton on Good Friday to move to two-and-zero.

Having split 12 goals in a pulsating first term, the Bulldogs set up their 89-point win with a brilliant nine-goal to nil second quarter.

‘Fish’ got himself among the goals and was named in the best as Gisborne moved to within percentage of ladder-leaders Golden Square.

Three Box Hill Hawks were in NAB League action over the weekend, too, with Max Walton’s Gippsland Power keeping their perfect start to 2022 in tact by virtue of a 51-point win over Sydney.

‘Maxy’ kicked a goal as Gippy retained top spot on the competition ladder through three rounds.

Sahaf Ali’s Eastern Ranges and Jed Rule’s Oakleigh Chargers locked horns in familiar surrounds, with the two sides meeting at Box Hill City Oval.

Oakleigh set up their 17-point victory with a six-goal to nil opening term and while Eastern made a game of things in the second half, the Chargers were too strong on the day.

Meanwhile, in news which has only recently come to light, premiership Hawk and current Box Hill Assistant Coach Clinton Young made his first appearance of the 2022 season last weekend, playing for hometown club Gisborne’s reserves.

‘Youngman’ kicked a goal to help his side to a 26-point win, before feeling some hamstring tightness. He was managed this week.
