Big Win From Pre-Season Hit-Out

The Box Hill Hawks have recorded a win in their first practice match of the season at Ikon Park yesterday, beating the Northern Blues by 50 points.

Leading at every major change, Box Hill managed to control the game from start to finish, triumphing 13.15.93 over the Blues’ 6.7.43.

Working hard at both ends of the ground, the Hawks grabbed the lead early, recording a four goal to two first quarter.

Whilst the Blues remained consistent throughout the match, Box Hill again dominated the last quarter to record the big win.

Captain David Mirra and Hawthorn player Will Langford led yesterday’s disposals, with 31 and 25 respectively.

Joseph Fisher finished the day with three goals, whilst Liam Kidd, Tea Miles and Marc Pittonet also contributed with two goals each.

Kidd spoke with boxhillhawks.com.au after the match about how the boys went in their first practice game of the year.

“In the first hit-out of the year…we just look for everyone to stick to our structures and they did that.”

“As the time goes on we’ll be able to talk a bit more about what we need to work on.”

Kicking two goals and laying seven tackles, Kidd spoke of his focuses for the game yesterday.

“I spoke to PK [Coach Paul Kennedy] before the game and he said he wanted the forward pressure up and then just as a small forward to get dangerous. Joey Fisher got in good positions and brought the ball to ground so I was just there at the right time.”

The Development boys also had a great first hit-out yesterday with their 15.6.96 win over the Northern Blues’ 7.4.46.

Box Hill’s next practice match takes place on the 27th March at Trevor Barker Oval against Sandringham.
