July 10: Community Clubs Wrap Up
Another week around the grounds saw Box Hill personnel again step up in representative matches, with Geordie Nagle and Ned Reeves donning the Big V guernsey and coming out 23-point victors against their Country opponents. Nagle demonstrated excellent leadership as vice-captain of the side, while Ned Reeves was outstanding the in ruck – the pair instrumental in securing the win.
Back at local level, Michael Knoll and his Vermont teammates bounced back from two last-start losses in commanding fashion, to triumph over Knox by a huge 169 points.
Chris Jones booted three goals to get South Croydon over the line against Balwyn; while Stuart Horner and Tom Maloney were also on the winner’s list, as their Norwood outfit took the four points over Noble Park.
East Ringwood fell just short of Montrose, in spite of three goals from Liam Jeffs and a pair from Leigh Osborne and Tristan Davies. The performances of Jeffs and Osborne earned the duo a spot amongst the best, while able support was provided by Reece Groves and Tristan Tweedie.
Mackenzie Doreian contributed a goal to Blackburn’s 24-point win over Doncaster, as did James Locke for Doncaster East, who accounted comfortably for Bayswater.
While named the best for his side, the efforts of Billy Evans weren’t enough to get the Waverley Blues over Templestowe; while it was heartbreak for Ryan McGannon and his Mt. Eliza side, who fell a single point shy of Mornington.
In the Northern Football League, Jesse Cucinotta hit the scoreboard in Heidelberg’s 15-point defeat of Montmorency; and Billy Murphy was again a standout for Greensborough, improving on his four-goal haul in his last outing to boot six majors and provide his side with a promising tilt at September.
