Brett Alexander Joins Hawks For 2018
Box Hill has secured the services of Brett Alexander as VFL Women’s assistant coach in 2018.
Alexander’s coaching career is as varied as it is prolific. He cut his teeth coaching at the TAC Cup side the Dandenong Stingrays before entering women’s football in 2010 as the coordinator of an AFL Girl’s program at Hallam College.
Alexander was the inaugural senior coach of the Seaford Tigerettes in 2016 and in their final season in VFL Women’s.
After coaching the Tigerettes for the final time in their Round 14 loss to Box Hill, he will now see life in brown and gold after crossing to join the Hawks for 2018. Upon accepting the role, Alexander says he foresees a bright future ahead for the Hawks.
“After that match in Round 14 last season, I could see that the girls (Box Hill) were really responding to the game plan and structures that were set in place,” says Alexander, who coached six Tigerettes to AFL Women’s selection in the inaugural 2017 season.
With the changing landscape of the VFL Women’s competition in 2018, Alexander says now is a new and exciting time to be involved in arguably the strongest state competition in the country.
“One thing I’m definitely looking forward to is the resources that are now available at VFL Women’s level,” says Alexander. “I’ll be giving it a hundred per cent. I’m really looking forward to supporting Paddy (Hill).”
Hill says the pieces are now coming together as the Hawks prepare to march up the ladder in 2018.
“Brett’s spent a long time in women’s footy working at both school and a couple of years at Seaford as a VFL coach,” says Hill. “He was organising seventy or eighty girls on the track and his ability to manage that with his work running the women’s academy made him a really strong candidate.”
