Hawks Fall Short Against Seagulls

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJdmB4agUEo&feature=youtu.be”][vc_column_text]The Box Hill Hawks have ended their season without silverware, after suffering a 54-point Grand Final loss to Williamstown.

The Hawks were slow out of the blocks and the Seagulls kicked three of the first four goals. Efforts from Jonathan Simpkin and James Sicily kept Box Hill in the hunt, but by the quarter-time break the margin was already out to 20 points.

Jed Anderson got the second quarter off to a flyer for the Hawks, kicking an incredible goal from the boundary line. Sam Grimley and James Sicily slotted consecutive majors, and momentum seemed to be back in their team’s favour.

Sam Collins followed a mark of the day contender with a calm set shot, and by the half-time break Box Hill was within five points.

The third quarter was highly repetitious of the first, and by the final break the Seagulls had extended their lead to 26 points. Teia Miles’ effort from the boundary line was the Hawks’ only goal of the third quarter.

Williamstown’s lead was cut to 20 points early in the fourth term, after another miraculous goal from Jed Anderson. But that would become the Hawks’ last major for the match, and the Seagulls piled on six unanswered goals to claim the VFL premiership.

Will Langford ran hard to collect 24 disposals and be named the Hawks’ best, while Daniel Howe laid a game-high 9 tackles.
