2024 Player Re-signings
With pre-season in full swing, the Box Hill Hawks have secured a host of re-signings across both our VFL and VFLW teams for the 2024 season.
The excitement begins with both Captains from 2023, putting pen to paper and re-committing for the 2024 season. VFL’s Callum Porter and VFLW’s Nicole Garner were awarded Best Finals Player for their respective teams last season, and are bound to remain strong leaders of our club both on and off the field in the new year.
VFL welcomes back a trio who may not have made it onto the field in 2023 due to injury, but were part of the club nonetheless. Key defensive recruit Ben De Bolfo, midfield utility James Parsons and crafty small forward Ben Cavarra will all be returning, ready and raring to go from their knee injuries.
We’ve retain further experience with 2023’s Col Austen Trophy winner Callum Brown, Paul Bolton Trophy Winner (Leading Goal Kicker) Jaylon Thorpe, Third Place in the Col Austen Trophy Ed Phillips and 2023 Vice-Captain Stu Horner all remaining in the brown and gold for 2024.
We’re lucky to have retained the likes of Max Hall, Jed Rule and Lachy Bryce, this group of young guns played 20 games between them in 2023.
As for VFLW, two more of our 2023 Leadership Group members have recommitted, with Nadia Von Bertouch and Mietta ‘Miz’ Kendall back on board for 2024. Their knowledge and presence are a vital part of our VFLW side.
A few from our core 2023 group in Caitlin Thorne, Ellie McLinden and Cassie Davidson, as well as last year’s Third Best and Fairest and Best First Year Player, Matilda Van Berkel will all be back at City Oval in the New Year.
Best known for that match winning goal against Carlton in Round 9, Gabby Collingwood has recommitted and is bound to produce more exciting moments in 2024. While our reliable young ruck, Grace Matser will also go around again with the Hawks.
Also rejoining the line up for VFLW, is strong defender Bella Gray and a few young up and comers in Chloe Bailey and Alisha Molesworth – As well as our 2023 VFLW Development Award recipient, Annie Muir.
And last but not least, technically a re-signing given she’s played VFLW in brown and gold before, but Tamara Luke will line up for Box Hill in 2024, fresh off her retirement from Hawthorn’s AFLW.
We’ve also acquired a few new faces to bolster our ranks for both Hawks teams, which will be announced in due time.
