2021 Finalised Playing List

The Box Hill Hawks have formally lodged and can now confirm our 2021 playing list.

VFL clubs are allowed to carry 30 listed players for the upcoming campaign, of which only 12 can be over the age of 22.

Sam Mitchell’s squad features 11 fresh faces, headlined by former Western Bulldogs duo Fergus Greene and Callum Porter, one-time Geelong listed backman Jordan Cunico and ex-Saints wingman Ed Phillips.

In addition, the Box Hill family is pleased to welcome the brothers Beasley aboard for 2021. Older sibling Hugh won a premiership and team of the year selection with Richmond’s VFL side in 2019 and is joined in the locker room by younger brother Charlie, who enjoyed time at VFL rival Port Melbourne.

Aside from targeting state league and AFL-listed experience, Box Hill is committed to providing elite development opportunities to NAB league talent via a pathway program with the Eastern Ranges and Gippsland Power.

Cayden Maki and Lachlan Munroe join from Eastern, while big-bodied midfielder Jai Newcombe comes to the Club from Gippsland.

Rounding out the new recruits are Adrian Kalcovski from local club Vermont, and Basketball convert Trent Warren. The latter signs on under the Category B Alternate Sport Program, having spent four years playing college basketball in the US.

The elevation of Lachlan Bramble to Hawthorn’s senior list opened up the opportunity for defender Elliot Le Grice to join brother Josh in brown and gold for 2021.

The Club will again be captained by Damian Mascitti, who first arrived at City Oval in 2019.

Mascitti’s leadership group will be made up of Hugh Beasley, Stuart Horner, Josh Deluca and Fergus Greene.

Other returning players are: Vincent Adduci, Chayce Black, James Blanck, Riley Bowman, Jesse Cucinotta, Mason de Wit, Josh Deluca, Mackenzie Doreian, Stuart Horner, Brayden Kilpatrick, Joshua Le Grice, Trent Mynott, Jamieson Rossiter, Beau Tennant, Lachlan Walker and Mihaele Zalac

“I’m really excited about the list we’ve been able to assemble,” said Daniel Napoli, Box Hill’s GM – VFL and VFLW.

“We’ve worked hard to put together a strong blend of AFL-listed experience and, importantly, a number of players who’ve exposure to this standard of football.

“We’re confident that talent will mesh well with our Hawthorn listed players to create a competitive outfit week-to-week.

“However, beyond wanting to compete for premierships, we are a Club with a strong development focus.

“That focus is at the heart of every decision we make and that more than half of our list are returning players speaks to this.

“Identifying and promoting young talent will always be a key component of our DNA and in Sam Mitchell we’ve a coach who at once embodies the Box Hill pathway and is passionate about the development of young footballers.

“One of the benefits of the longer pre-season has been the ability to have a good look at our list.

“Seven practice matches later we’re encouraged by the depth of talent we’ll have at our disposal.”

Box Hill’s 2021 campaign begins this Sunday at home to Casey, before the visit of the Northern Bullants a week later.
