VFLW Round 9 Match Preview

Box Hill will be aiming to return to the winners’ list on Saturday when it takes on Carlton at Box Hill City Oval as part of a massive double-header.

The 3.15pm battle will see seventh host fourth on the VFLW ladder.

Check out everything you need to know about the game below.

Who: Carlton

Where: Box Hill City Oval

When: Saturday 20 May at 3.15pm

At A Glance

Last time the Hawks and Blues met, it was a resounding win for the Hawks, claiming a 51-point win.

Ellie McLinden was among the best players and will be hoping to build on her promising performance against Essendon last week in which she gathered 10 disposals, four marks and five tackles.

This season, Box Hill has won four games while Carlton has won five. Both teams sit on the same amount of losses with three to their names.

The Who

There’s no bigger in for Box Hill than Gabby Collingwood.

Collingwood came across to the Hawks this year after six seasons with Brisbane’s AFLW side.

The 24-year-old’s return to the game comes 475 days after her last AFLW appearance.

In that game, she unfortunately ruptured her right ACL in what was her return match from a ruptured left ACL.

Collingwood has been working tirelessly on her return throughout the season and will be a welcome addition to the Hawks’ side.

She is among six additions for Box Hill, with Bella Gray, Nadia von Bertouch, Jess Vukic and Ava Campbell recalled while Sarah Humm has been selected for her first game of the season.

Carlton has also made a host of changes for the Saturday blockbuster with the main one being the inclusion of AFLW recruit Tahlia Read.

Ones To Watch

When Akayla Peterson gets going for Box Hill, she can be damaging.

Playing predominantly on the wing, Peterson’s running power and football smarts can often change the game.

The 28-year-old is averaging 11.6 disposals and four tackles from her five appearances and will be hoping to continue her solid form against her former VFLW side.

For Carlton, midfielder Maddie Di Cosmo has been a revelation this season.

Di Cosmo is currently ranked second in the competition for disposals with 169, averaging 21.1, and third for tackles with 69, averaging 8.6.

She is also sitting in third place in the VFLW Coaches MVP Award.
