VFLW Round 2 Match Preview

Box Hill will play its first home game of the season on Saturday!

As the only Hawks game in Melbourne this weekend, it’s your perfect opportunity to support the team at Box Hill City Oval.

Check out everything you need to know about the game below.

Who: Western Bulldogs

Where: Box Hill City Oval

When: Sunday 1 April at 12pm

At A Glance

Box Hill will be searching for its first win of the 2023 season, having drawn with Essendon in a thrilling Round 1 encounter.

When the Hawks last met the Western Bulldogs, they put on a stunning performance, prevailing to a whopping 101-point win.

The Bulldogs will be looking to avenge that result with a new-look team.

They put on a promising performance against the strong Casey Demons in Round 1 but came up short by 14 points.

The Who

Box Hill will blood another three debutants on Saturday, with Tamara Smith, Janet Baird and Charlotte Baskaran playing with the VFLW Hawks for the first time.

Smith and Baskaran featured in all 10 games for Hawthorn’s AFLW team in Season 7 while Baird ran out once.

Sarah Perkins also returns to the VFLW Hawks for the first time since 2021.

The forward has fond memories of the brown and gold, having played in Box Hill’s 2018 premiership.

Zoe Barbakos also plays her first game of the year after suiting up for the Hawks last season.

Watch out for former AFLW Hawks Kate McCarthy and Dominique Carbone on the Bulldogs side of things.

Ones To Watch

Former AFLW Blue Charlotte Hammans could be in for a big game.

The 22-year-old is coming off 17 disposals and six tackles in Round 1.

Arriving at the Hawks as a forward, Hammans is capable of playing as a midfielder, making her a dangerous threat for opposition sides.

Co-vice-captain Jordan Mifsud has also started the season on fire, picking up 23 possessions to go with 10 tackles.

The reigning best and fairest will be looking to back up her monster performance on home soil come Saturday
