The Box Hill Hawks would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Southport Sharks family on the passing of President, Dr. Alan MacKenzie.
Following a playing career with West Districts in the QAFL, Dr. MacKenzie spent a remarkable 49 years as President of Southport after being elected to the role in 1973. His leadership has lead to Southport becoming a powerhouse of Queensland football and the current State League Competition.
His commitment to the game of Aussie Rules Footy in Queensland was unrivalled, racking up many thousands of hours at community level to help grow the game from the ground up, while he served as medical officer for the Brisbane Lions during their dominant period in the early 2000s and was there again for the Gold Coast Suns entry into the AFL, keen to see football in the Sunshine State thrive.
Dr MacKenzie was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Jack Titus award in 2011. A life member of AFL Queensland, he was inducted into the QAFL Hall of Fame in 2008 and elevated to Legend Status in 2011.
Our sincere condolences to his wife Jo-Ann, his family and friends on his passing.
