AFL Victoria today announced a return to competition date for the 2020 Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL Season.
In fantastic news for Box Hill Hawks Football Club eight VFL clubs will commence full contact training from Monday 13 July with a seven-round season plus finals to commence on Saturday 1 August. The eight clubs to compete in to 2020 Hard Yakka/Totally Workwear VFL Season will be Box Hill, Casey Demons, Coburg, Frankston, Port Melbourne, Sandringham, Werribee and Williamstown.
The season will conclude with the top four clubs competing in a three-week Finals Series with the VFL Grand Final set for the weekend of 10 October. A VFL split round will be fixtured to provide flexibility while also preserving the integrity of the competition.
Box Hill Hawks President Ed Sill said the club is thrilled with AFL Victoria’s announcement today.
“After a period of significant uncertainty, today’s announcement from AFL Victoria is fantastic news,” said Sill.
“A collaborative and committed effort from all involved, from clubs, to AFL Victoria, and local and State Government now means we can get the 2020 season underway safely and effectively.
“Box Hill players, coaches and staff have been incredibly generous in the face of exceptional circumstances and have done everything in their power to make a return to play possible. That effort has been rewarded today with AFL Victoria’s announcement today.
“We would like to extend sincere thanks to our partners, iiNet, Nissan and Pieface for their continued support, today’s announcement would not have been possible without them.
“Box Hill Hawks will continue to work in conjunction with the other VFL Clubs, AFL Victoria and local and State government to review all arrangements for the 2020 season including the potential for spectators and broadcast of matches.”
