Box Hill’s Round 1 win on Saturday against the Sandringham Zebras was a great way to start the 2016 season.
The team’s pressure throughout the match was hard fought, and versatile tall Tom Gordon said the boys were happy that they were able to continue this throughout the last two quarters.
“I guess we set it up from the first ten minutes of the first quarter. The intensity and the work rate of everyone in that first half was unbelievable, and then to back it up in the second half was great.”
Gordon was happy with his personal performance in the first game of the season, but knows there is one area of his game in particular that needs work.
“Just covering the ground a bit – obviously with a limited pre-season I haven’t been able to get the kilometers in my legs, so coming into that last quarter I began to tire but was happy to get through the game unscathed.”
Looking forward to this weekend’s big Grand Final rematch against the Williamstown Seagulls, Gordon explained that the boys are aware of the challenge ahead of them.
“I think the biggest focus for us is going to be to bring that intensity and work rate week in, week out. I know it gets said a lot but the way we played today, we want to do all year-round.
“It’s going to be a hot contest next week against the Grand Final winners but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
This weekend’s match is sure to be a hard fought contest.
