Daniel Howe Recaps Saturday’s Narrow Win

It was a tight game on Saturday with the lead constantly switching hands but Box Hill managed to hold onto their 8-point lead when the final siren sounded.

With 31 disposals and 6 tackles, Daniel Howe was one of the key players on the day. Coming off the field, Howe was relieved that the boys could dig their feet in and get over the line.

‘I think we could take some confidence out of the fact that we got the win and grinded it out again.’

‘It wasn’t our best performance… Coburg were strong inside with their contested footy and also transitioned the ball well from their defensive 50 into scoring opportunities.’

Coburg were dominant in the clearances even though our ruckmen were giving us first use of the ball from stoppages, we won the hit outs 52-38 but lost the clearances 35-54.

‘I was part of the midfield and we got out-run in that area… Coburg had more possessions and clearances at the end of the game, they really got on top of us in that area and its something we as a group need to work on come next week’.

Having played 6 games for Hawthorn Football Club, Howe is relishing the opportunity to be able to gain experience at an elite level and is becoming more comfortable with football.

‘Its now my third year as an AFL listed player and, it’s great to get as much exposure at AFL level as I can. It’s helped me become more confident in my ability at that level and coming back to VFL really pinpoints the areas I need to work on.’

Howe will continue to work hard, pushing his case for Hawthorn selection ahead of this week’s game against an inform GWS Giants up in Sydney.

For Box Hill, we host Frankston who ended a long losing streak on the weekend to defeat Richmond down at Frankston, this poses another great challenge for our boys on Sunday 1st of May at City Oval.

Stay tuned for the team announcement this Thursday for Box Hill’s clash with Frankston on Sunday the 1st of May.
