Community Clubs 24 August

We’ve mentioned it for the past couple weeks, but it’s now officially finals time for a few of our Community Clubs boys. Round 18 came to a close (for all but one) and a few boys will look to the off-season while other gear up for the pointy end of the season.

In the Eastern Football Netball League Premier Division Seniors, Jimmy O’Connor and Harry Banfield with Vermont took a loss from Will Garner and Blackburn in Round 18 – 12.10 (82) to 10.8 (68). Garner managed a goal and after that lined up on O’Connor for a period.

While Vermont’s Premier Division Seniors side have missed the finals, O’Connor and Banfield have both qualified for Vermont’s Premier Division Reserves side who will face off against Noble Park in Elimination Final Two on Sunday.

Also in the EFNL Premier Division Seniors, Jake Arundell and Rowville secured a win over Balwyn in Round 18, 8.14 (62) to 4.14 (38), and therefore their top spot on the ladder. Arundell played well in both the forward line and when he spent time in midfield, hunting the footy.

Given their first-place finish, Rowville will also take the weekend off before their Semi Final in a week’s time, with Noble Park as their opponent.

Campbell Tweedie again lined up with Doncaster for Round 18 of the EFNL Premier Division Seniors. He and the Sharks were bested by the second placed Noble Park, 27.13 (175) to 6.7 (43).

In the Victorian Amateur Football Association’s Premier B Division, Jed Rule played with Old Carey in Round 17, where they suffered a 72-point loss to Fitzroy – 18.12 (120) to 7.6 (48). Rule managed a goal in the loss.

In the Gippsland League, Jack Hume and Leongatha were victorious over Drouin, by a significant 136 points – 24.16 (160 to 3.6 (24), solidifying their place atop the league ladder after Round 18. Hume spent more time forward and got on the scoreboard with two goals, he was also named third best for his side.

Leongatha therefore have this weekend off as the first week of finals play out, and will face the winner of Qualifying Final One, the following weekend in the Semi Final.

In Round 18 of the Ballarat Football Netball League, Jayden Eales and Sunbury finished the year on a high with a 65-point win over Bacchus Marsh, 15.19 (109) to 6.8 (44). Eales worked tirelessly on the ball in the ruck for the second half.

In Round 17 of the Ovens and Murray Football League, Will Sexton and Yarrawonga managed a narrow eight-point win over Albury – 12.12 (84) to 11.10 (76). The win secures Yarrawonga’s second-place spot on the ladder with just one week left of the regular season.

A couple of our boys had this past weekend off but have been training hard and preparing well to head into finals next weekend. Both will line up in the EFNL First Division Seniors Semi Finals.

On Saturday, Sahaf Ali will play with East Ringwood in a huge Semi Final v Mitcham, with the winner to go through to the Grand Final.

While on the Sunday, Cayden Maki and Mooroolbark will play in a big elimination final v Montrose.

Wishing all our boys (and their community clubs) playing finals the best of luck!
