Box Hill finish strong in first Practice Match
The Box Hill Hawks had their first hit out of season 2017 taking on the Northern Blues at Ikon Park on Friday afternoon.
Hawks fans were given a first look at new recruits Evans, Moore and Hams, whilst the side also included Hawthorn Premiership Captain Luke Hodge.
It was a scrappy early affair, with only one goal scored apiece in the first term. Northern managed to quickly find there rhythm in the second quarter, kicking 4 consecutive goals to lead by 18 points at the main break.
Box Hill rallied in the second half and came within a goal of Northern on several occasions before running out of time, trailing by 4 points at the final siren.
The game was a good early test for the Hawks as they come closer to Round 1.
2016 Box Hill Development Premiership players Liam Cox and Aaron Bond showed they can mix it at senior level, with both impacting the game in crucial stages.
Defender Joseph Fisher was also influential, as well as Hawthorn listed duo Brendan Whitecross and Dallas Willsmore.
In the Development game that followed, bad light put an early end to the game after 3 quarters, as the Hawks went down by 29 points.
In what was the first hit out for the Hawks development team, Box Hill took an early lead before Northern quickly responded by the end of the half.
Xavier Dimasi was strong down back and across midfield, whilst first year players Vincent Adduci and Tom Jacotine showed promising signs.
Box Hill will be back in action in two weeks’ time as they take on Essendon VFL on Saturday 25th of March at Tullamarine.
