August 21: Community Clubs Wrap-Up
With the tail end of the home and away season approaching and finals on the horizon, plenty were out to impress for their community clubs, with the weekend highlighted by returns from injury, team mates facing off and as per usual, a spate of best on ground performances.
In the Eastern Football League, while Nelson Lane was amongst the best and received able support from Stuart Horner, their Norwood outfit went down to Doncaster to the tune of 66 points.
East Ringwood also couldn’t get the win against their Northern rivals, in spite of the efforts of Tristan Davies, who contributed a goal in the 56-point loss.
In more positive news, Mackenzie Doreian and his Blackburn team mates consolidated their finals chances with a three-goal victory over Montrose; while Jordan Haynes was impressive in his return from an early season ankle injury, booting two goals and named amongst the best for Heathmont, in their defeat of the Waverley Blues.
Over in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, Nathan Boucher and the Collegians remain clear at the top of the table, taking bragging rights over Harrison Burt, Geordie Nagle and Lachlan Walker’s De La Salle, the final margin standing at a narrow 8 points.
St. Kevin’s trail the league leaders on percentage alone after securing the four points against Old Brighton; Vincent Adduci also making a solid return from injury, booting a goal in the side’s win.
In the Northern Football League, Jesse Cucinotta’s Heidelberg had a day to forget against the top of the table Macleod; while over on the Peninsula, scores were all square between Mt. Eliza and Frankston at the final siren, with two last quarter goals to Mt. Eliza’s Ryan McGannon setting the Redlegs up for qualifying final next week.
