Around The Grounds: Community Club Wrap-Up
With conditions worlds away from those which created chaos last weekend, a number of Box Hill personnel seized the opportunity, adding important contributions to their local clubs in a round which saw most on the winner’s list.
The Eastern Football League showcased another strong performance from Vermont, with a close call against North Ringwood, in which a goal from Michael Knoll helped the Eagles to a three-point victory.
A closely contested battle was fought between East Ringwood and Montrose, which unfortunately saw the Box Hill contingent of Tristan Davies, Reece Groves, Liam Jeffs, Leigh Osborne and Tristan Tweedie on the wrong end of a three-point margin. While Osborne produced a best on ground performance and was ably supported by Jeffs with two goals, efforts from Tweedie and Groves which landed them amongst the best, and a solid contribution from Davies, East Ringwood fell just short on the day.
In terms of good news stories, James Locke produced an outstanding effort to be named amongst the best for Doncaster East in their ten-point defeat of Bayswater, and in his first game back after undergoing foot surgery.
Jordan Haynes helped Heathmont to victory over Warrandyte; while Stuart Horner was named best on ground for South Croydon as they comfortably accounted for Doncaster.
In the Victorian Amateur Football Association, Ari Sakeson contributed a goal to Old Brighton’s win against De La Salle; while Ned Reeves put two on the board for St. Kevins, in their defeat of Old Xaverians.
Nathan Boucher and Sam Parsons lined up for the Collegians as they proved too strong for Old Scotch, coming out seven-point victors; and Harrison Burt put himself in the frame for senior selection with a best on ground effort for the De La Salle reserves, as they triumphed over Old Brighton by ten goals.
The round was wrapped with Ryan McGannon placing himself amongst the best, with two goals in Mt. Eliza’s defeat of Mornington, in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
