VFLW Round 4 Match Preview

The undefeated Box Hill Hawks will seek to keep their streak alive when they do battle with Collingwood on Sunday afternoon at Box Hill City Oval.

The clash forms part of an enthralling double-header with Box Hill’s VFL team who are also facing the Magpies at 12pm.

Before the on-field action begins, the club will commence proceedings at its first President’s Function of the year with Jason Bennett, Nigel Carmody and Campbell Brown all featuring as guest speakers.

As the only Hawks games in Victoria this weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to don your Box Hill merchandise (which you can purchase here) and support the Hawks’ VFL and VFLW teams.

The Hawks and Pies last met in Round 4 last season, with the Hawks securing a narrow eight-point victory in a tight contest at Victoria Park.

Both teams would go on to play finals in 2022 and will be looking to repeat their efforts again this season.

Box Hill currently sits on top of the ladder undefeated while Collingwood sits seventh with a 2-1 record.

The Magpies are coming off a 17-point win over Casey while the Hawks secured victory over the Southern Sainrts by 29 points on Easter Sunday.

The Who 

Box Hill defender Chantella Perera is back in brown and gold just under a year since giving birth to her daughter, Bodhi.

Perera is a 2018 Hawks premiership player, won the Lisa Hardeman Medal for best-on-ground that day and is a former AFLW player with West Coast.

She joins Hawthorn AFLW defender Catherine Brown, speedy winger Akayla Peterson and all-rounder Amanda Tessari as the four additions to Cherie O’Neill’s undefeated side.

Collingwood has added two AFLW stars to its line-up with Eliza James and Alana Porter named for the Box Hill City Oval clash.

Ones To Watch 

Grace McRae played arguably her best game of the season against the Southern Saints, gathering 18 possessions, laying eight tackles and kicking a goal.

The 20-year-old is ranked eighth in the competition for total disposals with 57, averaging 19 per game. 

The player to watch from Collingwood is ranked first in the competition for total disposals, with Jess Bates dominating the league so far.

The 2022 SANFLW Best and Fairest winner is averaging 26.7 possessions per game and is leading the way in the VFLW Coaches MVP Award.
