At A Glance
The Box Hill Hawks faced the Southern Saints in a practice match a month ago.
It was the Hawks who came out on top at La Trobe University, with Box Hill booting through seven majors on the day.
Last season’s finals encounter was a different story though, with the Saints knocking the Hawks out of contention at Box Hill City Oval.
So far, the Southern Saints and Box Hill Hawks are undefeated to start the 2023 season.
The Saints are coming off a 25-point win over Essendon while the Hawks secured victory over the Western Bulldogs by one point.
The Who
Matilda Van Berkel, Bridie Hipwell, Drew Ryan and Cassie Davidson will make their Box Hill debuts on Sunday.
Davidson and Hipwell both boast AFLW experience while Van Berkel and Ryan are exciting young prospects.
Ex-Hawk Kim Ebb will be lining up for the Saints, as will fellow former AFLW players Winnie Laing and Lucy Burke.
Ones To Watch
Emerson Woods is quietly putting together a promising season in her return to the VFLW Hawks.
The 22-year-old traditionally plays as a forward but last week played on the wing.
Woods showed dash and composure in a new role and has kept her spot in that position for Sunday’s clash.
Tessa Boyd is one to watch for the Saints.
Boyd leads the league in marks (seven per game) and also averages 19 disposals, gathering 20 possessions against Essendon last round.
