O’Neill to lead Hawks in new era

Cherie O’Neill has been appointed as Box Hill’s VFLW Senior Coach for the 2023 season.

O’Neill previously led the Hawks in 2021 and 2022, guiding the team to finals last season with a second-place finish.

O’Neill’s leadership has so far seen 23 players elevated to AFLW lists, highlighting her strong development capabilities.

In addition to her role as VFLW Senior Coach, she is also a member of Hawthorn’s AFLW coaching panel.

O’Neill said she was looking forward to embarking on a new chapter at Box Hill.

“I’m really excited to be reappointed as VFLW Senior Coach at the Hawks,” she said.

“We’ve made some great inroads under the Hawthorn banner and I’m really looking forward to continuing that trend back under the Box Hill badge.

“Our list is shaping up nicely ahead of the 2023 season and the players are excited to get stuck into what’s set to be a big year of VFLW.”

Box Hill Hawks General Manager, Pat Clancey said O’Neill was the perfect candidate to lead Box Hill’s VFLW team this year.

“Cherie has a proven record of success in her coaching career and puts a mountain of work into developing elite standards in her program,” Clancey said.

“She is widely respected amongst the players and staff who are gearing up for a big season under her trusted tutelage.

“We can’t wait to see where Cherie takes our program in a new era of Box Hill footy.”

Box Hill’s VFLW team has returned to training in anticipation of the season commencing on Saturday 25 March.
