Local Level Highlight: Blake Simondson & Ruby Murdoch
At Box Hill Hawks, we’re proud of the strong connections our players maintain with their grassroots clubs. Each week, many of our VFL and VFLW-listed athletes pull on their local colours, showcasing their talent and passion at community level. This week, we’re shining a spotlight on two standout performers, who made a big impact for their local sides.
VFL, Blake Simondson – South Belgrave Seniors (EFNL)
Blake and the South Belgrave Seniors had a huge Round 2 win last Saturday, beating Norwood Seniors, by 91-points, 21.19 (145) to 8.6 (54).
Being named in the best player list, Blake had a strong first half with the forwards, showing his ability to be impactful high up the ground as well as in the forward 50.
Moving into the midfield, he was able to generate speed and break the lines, once again hitting the scoreboard.
VFLW, Ruby Murdoch – Old Haileybury Senior Women’s (VAFA)
Ruby delivered a standout performance in Round 2 for Old Haileybury, kicking an incredible goal after bursting from half back.
Although, the side lost to a strong Richmond Central side, Ruby showcased her speed, skill, and determination, scoring herself on the best player list, a testament to her impact on the game.
