Life Members Lunch & Hall Of Fame Inductees

The 2024 Life Members Day was held on Sunday July 7 on what was a special day for the club. Two new inductions to the Box Hill Hall of Fame including Team of the Century Captain, Alex Gardiner, and veteran Team Manager, Alan McDonald, received their medals in front of a sell out crowd of over 130 Life Members, Club Partners, Mustangs and guests.
The football was equally as exciting with the Hawks taking on Geelong in a thrilling encounter where the lead never got above 12 points to either side, but the ‘Stangs coming away with a 1 point win to keep the top four chances alive.

Alex Gardiner

Joining Box Hill as Captain-Coach after playing 91 V.F.L. games for
Footscray, Alex Gardiner was an inspirational on-field leader who
played mainly in the centre. His standout season was 1964 when he
won the Club Champion Trophy, was runner-up in the competition’s
Best and Fairest Medal and represented the V.F.A. Over Half a Century
after he retired, he remains the Club’s second-longest serving coach (to
John Murphy) and captained the Club on the second-most occasions
(behind David Mirra). In 2000 he was honoured as Captain of Box Hill’s
official Team of the Century.

Alan McDonald

For over Quarter of a Century Alan McDonald has been a continuous
and integral part of the Box Hill Hawks match day endeavours; apart
from the inaugural year of the alignment with Hawthorn when he was
General Manager of the Club. He has filled various match day roles
including as team manager and in the coaches box and has worked
alongside no fewer than thirteen Senior Coaches. He has been an
important off-field contributor to a total of eight Premierships; three in
the V.F.L. and five in the Development League.

Sunday July 28, game start 12:00pm
Luncheon starts at 10:45am with a main course, half time snacks and a 90 minute drinks package for $100.

Round 21 v Werribee
Sunday August 18, game start 2:05pm
Luncheon will start at midday with a two course meal, 2 hour drinks package for $110. We will also be celebrating the 1984 Premiership Reunion and the 1990’s Mustangs Reunion on the day.
