Hawks’ VFLW License Transferred to Box Hill

A new chapter in the partnership between Hawthorn and Box Hill has been written,
with the Hawks transitioning their VFLW licence to their affiliate for the 2023 VFLW
season.

This will mean that the Box Hill Hawks will field a men’s and women’s team in the VFL and
VFLW next season.

Led by freshly appointed VFL coach Zane Littlejohn and returning VFLW coach Cherie
O’Neill, the 2023 VFL and VFLW seasons promise to be full of excitement.

Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves celebrated the positive alignment between the two clubs.
“The partnership between Hawthorn and Box Hill is one that continues to grow,” Reeves
said.

“2023 will be a historic season for Box Hill, fielding a men’s and women’s team in the VFL
and VFLW.

“We’re so excited to see what the Hawks can do under the leadership of head coaches Zane
Littlejohn and Cherie O’Neill as well as President Ed Sill.

“This transition further strengthens the alignment between Hawthorn and Box Hill and we
couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

Box Hill President Ed Sill echoed Reeves’ sentiment.

“We’re delighted to field a VFLW team under the Box Hill banner in 2023,” Sill said.

“Hawthorn has done a tremendous job in establishing this successful team in recent years
and we hope to continue that trend under the fantastic leadership of Cherie O’Neill this
season and beyond.

“This isn’t the first time that Hawthorn and Box Hill have created history and it certainly won’t
be the last. We look forward to further strengthening our alignment through this transition.”

In further exciting news, Box Hill’s VFL team will return to the track on Tuesday 22
November while the Hawks’ VFLW side will recommence training on Wednesday 30
November.
