Hawks unveil inaugural Pride Guernsey
The Box Hill Hawks are proud to reveal our inaugural Pride Guernsey, which will be worn by both our VFL and VFLW teams.
The option to design the guernsey was put to both teams, to allow for maximum input across the program. With an empty guernsey template, highlighters and coloured pens left out on a training night, players were encouraged to create a design.
From there, the numerous ideas were combined to incorporate many aspects of the contributions for the final design.
The final design features the traditional brown and gold stripes on the front with a hawk head at the bottom, with colours from the pride flags in it’s feathers.
The back of the guernsey sees the colours of the progress pride flag in place of the usual brown stripes.
Box Hill Hawks General Manager Pat Clancey said, “We’re so excited to share our Pride Guernsey design, with both our VFLW team wearing it this weekend and our VFL team wearing it later in the season against Footscray.
“This guernsey is our way of showing our support and allyship for those who are part of the LGBTQI+ community, both inside the walls of our football club and in the broader community.
“We believe diversity and inclusion should be at the forefront of what we do, to continue to create a club where everyone feels welcome. And everyone is welcome at the Hawks.”
Our VFLW side will debut the guernsey this weekend against the Southern Saints. Get down to Box Hill City Oval to cheer on our Pride game with the VFLW team taking to the field through a guard of honour by Hawks Pride at 11.30am on Saturday, July 1.
The VFL team will wear the Pride guernsey later in the season, in Round 21 against Footscray.
