DEVELOPMENT: Hawks fly North over Blues

THE Box Hill Hawks are beginning to solidify their spot at the top of the ladder after defeating the Northern Blues by 87 points at City Oval on Saturday.

A clinical Hawks side was able to handle the slippery conditions much better than their opponents, who could do little but watch as Box Hill piled on goal after goal.

By the half-time break the lead had stretched to 43 points and Box Hill looked to be on top in all areas. The half-time message from Matt Adolph was to keep the pressure on and to not take the foot off the gas.

When the final siren sounded the Hawks had soared to a 14-goal victory and now sit perched 2 games clear on top of the ladder.

Jared Hardisty laid an impressive sixteen tackles and epitomised the Hawks’ pressure and attack on the ball.

Despite the Hawks’ excellent form, captain Xavier Dimasi knows there is still work to be done and is adamant Box Hill is not counting its chickens before they hatch.

“You can’t win a premiership in August,” he said.

Their impressive percentage means that 2 wins from their last 4 matches should allow them to claim the minor premiership. All the more reason to get down to City Oval this Sunday to watch the Hawks take on a third-placed Casey Scorpions side.
