Development Team Storm Into Grand Final

With a 92-point win over the Casey Scorpions yesterday, the Box Hill Hawks Development team has stormed into the AFL Victoria Development Grand Final.

On a windy day at Casey Fields, the Development squad put in a huge four-quarter effort to secure a week off and a shot at glory in the Grand Final in two weeks time.

The Hawks started strongly with a six goal to one first term. Connor O’Sullivan dominated the contests and allowed Box Hill first use of the ball, whilst Jake Summers kicked three goals for the quarter.

The second term saw the Hawks continue their first quarter form, with the first goal coming within the first minute of play. With the majority of the quarter played within Box Hill’s forward half of the ground, the team managed 16 inside 50s to 5 to keep the scoreboard pressure on the Scorpions.

The third quarter saw Casey fail to kick a major. Nick Evans and Joseph Fisher were solid in the back half of the ground, rebounding the ball out of danger, whilst the Hawks scored five goals from five different goal scorers.

The final term saw a more even contest, with Casey and Box Hill both kicking five goals. But Casey left their run too late, kicking the majority of their goals with only minutes left on the clock.

Walking away winners at the final siren, Box Hill has a bye this week as they wait to see which team they will meet in the Grand Final in two weeks time.

Anthony Brolic, one of today’s best on ground with 40 disposals, 11 clearances, 6 inside 50s and a goal, spoke with about the win and the challenge ahead.

“We knew it would be a very competitive game from the start. We knew it would be whoever settled first would get the upper hand and we settled very quickly. The first couple of minutes were very contested but we knew once we settled and played our brand of footy it would show on the scoreboard and it did.”

“We knew we had a strong team but we also knew from last week’s performance we had to work on a couple of things. But I think today we played really good and consistent footy. The last couple of minutes in the last quarter when they kicked a couple on us we weren’t really happy with, but other than that I thought we played really well.”

“If we do play them again in the Grand Final we know it will be another competitive game of football.”
