Community Clubs May 25

A VFL bye resulted in a huge turn out at Community Clubs level this past week, with 22 Box Hill-listed stars donning the colours of their local teams.

Leading-goalkicker Fergus Greene had his first outing for Lake Wendouree in the Ballarat Football Netball League on Saturday. They were bested by Jayden Eales and his Sunbury Lions, 14.16 (100) to 8.11 (59).

Greene kicked three of Lake Wendouree’s eight goals and earnt himself fifth best afield for the afternoon. While Eales also managed a goal for the Lions. 

Jed Rule was back with his Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League on Sunday after a two-week stint in the Young Guns program. Will Sexton also lined up for the undefeated Chargers, who managed to narrowly defeat Tasmania 13.10 (88) to 12.10 (82). 

Sahaf Ali was on deck for Eastern Ranges in the NAB League, helping his side secure a 25-point win over the Sandringham Dragons, 13.13 (91) to 9.12 (66). 

Vincent Adduci lined up in the Eastern Football Netball League for Blackburn on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers went down to Noble Park 14.11 (95) to 12.12 (84) in the Round 6 clash, but Adduci slotted a goal.

Will Garner was part of the Panthers’ Reserves side who won by 66-points over Noble Park, 15.11 (101) to 5.5 (35). Garner managed two goals in the good win.

Max Hall’s Montrose suffered a two-point loss to the Lilydale –  7.7 (49) to 6.11 (47). Despite the loss, Hall put in another strong showing to be judged among his side’s best performers. 

It was quite the game for Lachlan Wynd and Rowville. Joined by teammates Jake Arundell and Mitchell Sruk, ‘Scotty’ booted five and was named his side’s best in the Hawks’ win over Doncaster East 13.15 (93) to 11.10 (76). Arundell also contributed a goal.

Cayden Maki’s Mooroolbark had a good weekend, romping to a 70-point win over Bayswater. Maki’s two goals was good enough to earn him a place in the Mustangs’ best.

Mason Hawkins pulled on the boots for Vermont, who defeated Berwick 11.9 (75) to 10.8 (68). Hawkins booted two goals and was one of three multiple goal scorers for the Eagles. 

Liam Coghlan and Campbell Tweedie both played in Doncaster’s loss to South Croydon. The Bulldogs were too strong on the day, taking the points 13.13 (91) to 9.9 (63). 

James O’Connor and Harry Banfield played for Vermont Premier Division Reserves in the earlier game, with their side securing a 61-point win over Berwick. Banfield managed a goal and was named best afield for the Eagles.

Luis D’Angelo and Traralgon managed a 71-point victory in the Gippsland League on Saturday afternoon. They defeated Bairnsdale 18.10 (118) to 6.11 (47). 

In the VAFA, Charlie Beasley and Old Trinity recorded their second win of the season. They managed a 14-point victory over Caufield Grammarians 13.3 (81) to 9.13 (67). 

Jack Hume and Leongatha took a 20-point victory over Maffra in the Gippsland League. The Parrots finished 13.11 (89) to Maffra’s 9.15 (69).
