It was a challenging day down at Box Hill City Oval yesterday with our Development Squad going down to the Sandringham Zebras 13.13.91 to 15.8.98.
With four goals under the belt of Box Hill by quarter time, it seemed the boys were in control of the game from early on. But by half time Box Hill were down by 22 points.
“We just need to concentrate on playing four quarters,” said Billy Murphy. “We lost it a bit in the second quarter.”
“Because it was our first game we lost a bit of composure, but we did well to hold them up.”
By the end of the third quarter, the boys had shaken off their nerves. Box Hill managed to hold off Sandringham, keeping the margin to 20 points with Murphy, Sam Smith and Jake Summers with a goal each.
It was in the last quarter that the boys began standing their ground, closing the margin to just seven points by the end of the game, thanks to goals by Murphy, Lachlan Langford and Jack Nolan.
Despite the narrow loss there were many positives to take from the game.
“When we were on, there was no stopping us,” said Coach Matt Adolph. “We turned around a 60 point deficit in two weeks so there is massive upside in this group.”
