Casey Scorpions stung by High-Flying Hawks

A fast finishing Box Hill have solidified their spot at the top of the Peter Jackson VFL ladder after a commanding win over Casey.

Away from home at Casey Fields, the ground was in pristine condition but the swirling breeze hindered clean possession all day.

But the Hawks let little concern them as they eventually cruised to an 85-point win 19.15 (129) to 6.8 (44).

Leading from start to finish, the Hawks started slowly putting only three goals to two on in the first term, finding Ben Stratton and Kyle Cheney with most of the ball on half-back.

The first half was played in small spaces as the congestion around the ball skewed scoring, the goals found only nine times at the main break from both sides.

The game needed a force and that was found in returning Hawthorn ruckman Ben McEvoy who consistently pushed forward and kicked truly for five goals.

After a half-time deficit of 38-points, the Scorpions kicked three unanswered majors but could only add one more for the remainder of the match.

A free-for-all ensued in the final term with Box Hill kicking nine goals to zero and running out the game with a huge percentage boost.

McEvoy spoke to ABC and was full of praise for his Box Hill teammates after their monumental win.

“The club’s list is healthy and it’s pretty good to see for [finals],” McEvoy said.

“It was really good to come home strong thanks to the good work on the inside.”

Box Hill have a BYE next week before meeting Essendon on July 5.
