Former Bomber Will Hams joins Box Hill in 2017

The Box Hill Hawks are pleased to announce the final ex-AFL signing for 2017 with former Essendon midfielder Will Hams joining the club.

A former Gippsland Power graduate, Hams joined the Bombers in the 2013 Pre-Season draft, taken at pick 6. From there, Hams spent 4 years at Essendon playing 13 senior AFL matches. Unfortunately, Hams was struck with injury for most of his early seasons restricting him to minimal playing time.

“I had a few injuries in my first few seasons at Essendon. I didn’t play much footy early on but was great to get back and play all of 2016.”

2016 saw Hams play a full season across AFL and VFL level. Hams played 8 games for Essendon in the AFL, with his best game of the season coming against Adelaide in the Round 19 loss.

Hams was also key member of the Essendon VFL side, who lost to eventual Premier Footscray in the Peter Jackson VFL Semi Final.  Hams managed 12 games for Essendon VFL across 2016, kicking 13 goals and being named in his sides best players 10 times.

Whilst no longer on an AFL list, Hams is still driven to one day return to the top level.

“I’m just looking forward to having a good season, playing some good footy and hopefully finding myself back in the AFL system one day.”

“I had a meeting with Chris Monaghan (List and Recruiting Manager) and Chris Newman (Senior Coach) and then had a run with the boys and was super impressed.”

Hams is a welcome addition to the Box Hill Hawks Football Club for 2017.
