Round Fourteen Team Selection

The seventh-placed Box Hill Hawks take to Etihad Stadium this weekend looking to rebound from back-to-back losses, with the sixth-placed Footscray between the Brown and Gold and four crucial points.

The past fortnight has been a challenge for Chris Newman’s men, who’ve managed to produce some excellent football against Essendon and Richmond only to emerge empty handed on both occasions.

A win in Saturday’s Etihad Stadium curtain raiser shapes as vital for a Hawks outfit looking to kick start it’s season.

In team news Jono O’Rourke looks set to resume having missed last week, with Tim O’Brien also in the mix to feature.

Newman has handed six senior VFL-listed Hawks a place in his 27-man squad, with each rewarded for good form at local level.

Billy Murphy’s name is amongst the magnets following a best afield display on debut for Greensborough last weekend, whilst Brayden Kilpatrick has a month of good form behind him at South Croydon.

‘Killers” Bulldogs teammate Chris Jones is the good news story amongst the potential ins, with the key position tall in the match day squad for the first time this season.

Jones suffered a serious knee injury in the Hawks’ final pre-season hit out and has worked his way into contention since returning to football three weeks ago.

He’s joined by Liam Mackie, Leigh Osborne and Anthony Brolic, with that trio also there or thereabouts on the strength of recent performances for their community clubs.

Nathan Boucher has been selected as the 23rd man, his efforts in the recently concluded Young Guns series duly rewarded.

Ins: T. O’Brien, J. O’Rourke, B. Murphy, B. Kilpatrick, C. Jones, L. Mackie, A. Brolic, L. Osborne, N. Boucher
Outs: N. Lane, M. Doreian, J. Ross, T. Miles, J. Cousins
